Abnormally Frequent Evacuation Of Watery Faeces.

Familial Chloride Diarrhoea - A Type Of Severe Watery Diarrhoea That Begins In Early Infancy With Faeces Containing Excessive Chloride Because Of Impairment Of Chloride-Bicarbonate Exchange In The Lower Colon. Affected Infants Have A Distended Abdomen, Lethargy, And Retarded Growth And Mental Development.

Osmotic Diarrhoea - That Due To The Presence Of Osmotically Active Nonabsorbable Solutes In The Intestine, e.g., Magnesium Sulphate.

Parenteral Diarrhoea - Diarrhoea Due To Infections Outside The Gastro-Intestinal Tract.

    • First Note The Pulse, B.P. And Degree Of Dehydration.
    • If B.P. Is Normal & Dehydration Is Mild ; Anti Diarrhoeal Drugs That Reduce G.I. Motility, Anti Spasmotics, Intestinal Antibiotics, Systemic Antibiotics.
    • If B.P Has Fallen Or Dehydration Is Severe ;
    1. Start I.V. Drip With Large Needle. ( Do Not Give 5% Dextrose In Dehydration ).

    • If Stools Are Black Coloured With Pallor And Low B.P., Think Of Bleeding Duodenal Ulcer. Refer Immediately.
    • Keep Watch On Signs Of Dehydration - Low B.P., Tachycardia, Sunken Eye Balls, Loss Of Skin Turgor And Thirst.
    • Amoebic Dysentry Is Extremely Common In India. So Give Flagyl Or Tinidazole For All Cases Of Dysentry, Flatulence, Indigestion And Intestinal Colics.
